If a bracket breaks outside of office hours, do not attempt to remove it yourself. If a wire is irritating, you may use orthodontic wax to temporarily cover the sharp area. Avoid sticky, hard, or chewy foods until your appointment. Contact our office as soon as we open to schedule a repair visit and assess whether your treatment timeline needs adjustment.

However, delays in addressing a broken appliance can allow teeth to shift back or slow progress. If a wire is poking your cheek or gum, apply a small piece of orthodontic wax over the sharp end to reduce irritation. In some cases, you can use a clean cotton swab or the eraser end of a pencil to gently push the wire flat against the tooth. Do not cut the wire yourself.
