Specialist-guided emergency orthodontic care in Heath, Ohio, committed to resolving urgent issues without compromising your overall treatment progress.

Rapid Response To Pain And Discomfort

A broken wire or dislodged bracket may seem minor, but left unaddressed, these issues can cause oral irritation, soft tissue injury, or disruptions that extend your treatment timeline. Prompt specialist care stops small problems from becoming setbacks, so you can return to everyday living with confidence and comfort.

Protecting Your Treatment Timeline

Orthodontic emergencies are not treated in isolation at Wigal & Kluemper. Every intervention is coordinated with your existing treatment plan to ensure that tooth movement stays on course. Our specialists assess each situation alongside your full orthodontic history, making adjustments that protect the progress you have already made.

Integrated Care That Addresses The Full Picture

An orthodontic emergency is more than a broken appliance. Our specialists evaluate each situation in the context of your jaw alignment, airway function, and bite balance, because how your teeth, joints, and airways work together matters as much as the appliance itself. This integrated approach ensures that emergency care supports your long-term orthodontic and health outcomes.

Orthodontic Emergency FAQs

When something goes wrong with your braces or aligners, it’s natural to have questions. Here are answers to the most common concerns patients bring to us during orthodontic emergencies.

What counts as an orthodontic emergency?

An orthodontic emergency includes any situation causing significant pain, oral injury, or risk to your treatment progress. Common examples include broken brackets, poking or loose wires, lost or cracked retainers, displaced aligners, loose bands, and dental trauma affecting your appliances or teeth. If you’re unsure whether your situation qualifies, contact our office, and we will help you assess next steps.

If a bracket breaks outside of office hours, do not attempt to remove it yourself. If a wire is irritating, you may use orthodontic wax to temporarily cover the sharp area. Avoid sticky, hard, or chewy foods until your appointment. Contact our office as soon as we open to schedule a repair visit and assess whether your treatment timeline needs adjustment.

It depends on the nature and duration of the issue. Minor repairs addressed promptly typically have little to no impact on your overall timeline. However, delays in addressing a broken appliance can allow teeth to shift back or slow progress. This is why contacting our office quickly — even for issues that seem minor — is always the right call.

If a wire is poking your cheek or gum, apply a small piece of orthodontic wax over the sharp end to reduce irritation. In some cases, you can use a clean cotton swab or the eraser end of a pencil to gently push the wire flat against the tooth. Do not cut the wire yourself. Call our office to schedule a same-day or next-available appointment so a specialist can assess and correct it properly.
